Just want to thank Bob Davis Jr. and Vinnie Falcetano for the nice lunch we had yesterday at The Boathouse in Belmar. The food and the company were exceptional. As a bonus, Bob Davis Sr. and Pat Farrelly stopped in to say Hi. I had forgotten how beautiful the beach is at Belmar, not to mention how delicious a Guinness tastes at lunch. Anyway, thanks again Bob and Vinnie.
What great memories. We would stay in what they'd now call a B&B on 9th. Evenually my uncle bought a house on 17th Ave and his daughter still lives there. Goslins was an old time Belmar haunt. Then eventually the Shamrock, of course DJai's and a ride to see the Lynch Boys and a visit to the Osprey.
Too bad the big storm of '92 changed the face of the boardwalk. No more penny arcades, golf, swings, etc. that we grew up with. At least the fishing is still good at the inlet.
I haven't been to the beaches in years. Do they still have the swimming area roped off with barrels?
John and Vinnie, The pleasure was all mine. We accomplished some good things at our meeting.
Bobby Jones, The fishing is very good in Belmar and you know you are welcome to visit us at any time. Sorry we missed the barbecue at Mike's. I mentioned, to a few of the class of 68, the possibility of going to Crystal Caves and Roadside America sometime in the near future. Do you remember those places? What do you think?
John & Bob,
I agree, It was great getting together with you guys, and I couldn't think of a better way to spend a summer afternoon. Good Food, Good Friends, Good Beer! Thanks, Fellas.
Vinnie
P.S. Hey Jonsey, Glad you're back from Florida in one piece! When are we goin' out on the Boat?
Bobby Jones. The Belmar ropes, of which you speak, are long gone but not forgotten. I certainly remember the great time I had in my teens going out to the last rope and hanging on. I think it was a big lose to the Belmar beach activity when they were removed. I think their removal was prompted by insurance concerns. The cost of coverage became prohibitive when the era of "What can I get if I sue?" entered the picture.
