It is with great sadness to let you know we have lost one of "Bodholts'" and St Rose of Limas'most faithful supporters. My brother Mike McLafferty passed away Monday Sept 12 after a long and courageous fight with cancer. We will all miss him. He truly loved this web site and was a daily addict to it.
I'm very sorry to hear that. I always enjoyed Mike's posts. But I'm happy that this website provided him with a good deal of pleasure. We all owe John a great deal for starting it.
Mike was just a great guy. After our Italian hot dog get-together earlier this year we sat in my back yard and drank beer and talked about Newark and people he remembered. He was a kind, smart, funny man who loved people and the city he grew up in. I'm sorry I didn't get to know him sooner, but I believe he added some quality to every life he touched. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
I'll always remember him as a tough but fair judge of New Jersey cuisine, and it's with great respect that I include this photo of Mike at Jimmy Buff's. He declared the dog "Good as I remember." Mike, you were good as we remember.

Yes, that was the first and, unfortunately, only time I met Mike, and it was a pleasure to dine "North Jersey style" with him. To associate with the likes of the hot dog panel you have to have a sense of humor -- and he did have that, for sure.
I first met Mike in our kitchen on West Market Street so many years ago, I don't even remember how many. He was friends with my older brother. Years later, I found out he lived right around the corner from us in Nutley. We loved running into him, or having him over to do our taxes, or seeing him in the St. Patrick's DAy parade. He'd always have a beer, and tell us who he saw from the old neighborhood. He loved the website, and was happy to tell everyone about it. We'll surely miss him.
Thank you for this nice picture and the real nice comments. My dad would be glad I responded to you great people! He liked fun stuff like this. Peace to all of you! Kevin

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike's Family. I never met Mike, but I enjoyed reading his posts, and John, the fact that Mike seemed to get such great joy from this Message Board in his time of pain and suffering, only reinforces the fact that you have made a great deal of former students and friends of Roseville very happy to relive some of their childhood memories, and have brought some of us together again after 30 years. Your impact on our lives has been enormous.
This is surely a sad time. My prayers are with him and his family. He will be missed. My thoughts go back to some fine memories from my youth at Rose, and the good times we shared. Back to all the little tricks that we played on the good nuns. All the time we spent at Grunnings, the trips to Belmar in Mikes jalopy that was held together with spit, all the dances at the CYO's, and all the parties. Those memories will be with me forever. I raise my glass to you Mike wherever you are, a fine gentleman, a classmate, and a good friend.
Kevin, thanks for your kind words at this tough time. Your dad is one of the people who have made this site a worthwhile endeavor. All of us send our love and respect to your family.
Our prayers are with the McLafferty Family at this sad time.
I want to also express that John Crowley's website has been such a wonderful asset to us all. I appreciate all he's done and am especially touched by his compassion for his fellow alumni.
My condolances to you and your family. I would have loved to have met your father. He seemed to have know pratically everyone on Humboldt ST. He resurrected alot of great memories for me. I will pray for him.
Sheila (Washington) and I were really sorry to hear of Mike's passing. But i"m sure we'll see him in a better place and we know the Lord will continue to bless those he left behind. May Our Lords Peace be with all of Us.
