Anyone remember Hurricaine Donna?
I remember a lot of wind and rain...also that i didn't have to go to school for a few days...(got me out of a test!) There was water every where...Knee deep in some places...in the Amphere section of E.O. alot of trees were down....
that's a picture of Bob , august 1991
it blew threw long island and put all the traffic lights in brooklyn out....all we got was some breeze and humidity...
I remember one in the fiftys , I dont remember what year. It knock down a lot of trees in Branch brook park, It also had trees down across the tracks of the subway
Wish I had all my photo files handy. Can't find that picture of the tree knocked down in front of 196 Roseville avenue. Wonder if that was the same year.
I rememember the hurricane of 1938. I was in first and my brother was in six or seventh grade at Roseville Ave. One morning (in Sept?) it was raining when we were leaving school for lunch. My brother asked the principal, Mr. Beckmeyer, if school was closing for the day. Mr. beckmeyer said "No, it is just a shower"! When we got home our mother said, " A little shower, It's HURRICANE!" So we didn't go back to school and spent the afternoon watching the trees go down on S.13th street. At one point I saw the postman, Mr. Clark, and the slate sidewalk being lifted into the air by a large falling chestnut tree. Delivering mail during a hurricane, I don't think they do that anymore!
