I am getting so old and forgetful I have trouble remembering who I coached?
I think I coached two guys that became famous later on: John McCree Essex Catholic and St. Johns and Tyrone Barley Seton Hall Prep and St. Josephs. I remember them, even if they were 29 years apart. I remember Bobby Molinaro, but Mr. Crowley was the head coach. I was an assistant. My two sons made all county in high school, but that was due to their mother's genes and good cooking, not me. I remember a blonde haired Goldy, Billy? and a brunette? Bobby? My sister was talking about the Goldy family this past weekend. Did we have a Nate Brown on one of the teams? I remember a wonderful man named Ralph Warner. This is no disrespect to the fine people I coached, but the memory starts to go. I do rememeber the Egans and Joe Fuller, Neil Melillo, Bruce Davis, Barry Benson and Hardaway, Dan Cassady, Joe Culligan, Gary Grimsley who i worked with for a year, Jimbo Crowlwy,
I know i am leaving people out so let me think some more. |

68.45.5.208 | Speaking of Mr. Crowley and Mr. Warner | March 9 2006, 6:16 PM |
I have something to write about these gentlmen. Three years ago, totally due to this wonderful web site, a former player of mine wrote to me. He stated that at Christmas time he did a personal inventory of people who had an effect on his life as a youth and I was one of the ten he listed. Wow, what a wonderful thing to write to someone. It left me with a tremendous feeling.
Anyway, I just did the same thing. There was my father of course. His best friend Leo Moran who intimidated the admissions officer to get a mediocre student like me into college. Later on two great bosses: Joseph Bongiorno and Jimmy Barton. Maybe a teacher, Mr. Flood, but DEFINITELY RALPH WARNER AND ROBERT CROWLEY. They got me involved in working with kids and forty years later, here we are. I regret that I can not tell these men the scope of their influence, but I can write it here.
I strongly recommend that all of us find the people who influenced their lives and tell them about it. We are who we are for many reasons. And who knows, maybe we touched someone else along the way.
Thank you Mr. Crowley and Mr. Warner , wherever you are. |

Thanks, Frank. Jimbo and I appreciate you remembering the ol' man. Learned a lot from him myself.
One "tutorial" from him brought home to me the effect one's actions can have on others. I had borrowed his car one evening and returned it to the driveway later. But I hadn't rolled the window up all the way, and during the night it rained. I saw him the next day, and the conversation went like this:
"Hi, Pop."
"Hey Slick, you used my car last night, didn't you?"
"Yeah, you said I could."
"Uh huh. And you didn't roll the window all the way up, did you?"
"Um, I guess I might not have."
"And it rained last night, didn't it?"
"Aw, jeez. I'm sorry."
"Yeah, you're sorry -- and I got a wet ass!" |

Frank, I could as a major influence on my life your Aunt Marilyn. I think of her often and still quote stories and jokes she's told. Her kindness to me when I was an insecure teenager and the advice she gave me all though my life has stuck with me!

Hi Collette, Please say hello to all of your brothers
for me. Frank McCree spoke above of Mr's Crowley and
Warner. Mr. C would pick up Bobby,Billy and I,and off
we would go to find a pond or puddle of water that his
son Jimbo could walk on without falling through.
(I'm kidding Jimbo, but you did go through the cove at
Lake Hopatcong) The start of my hockey career.
I'm very thankful that these men (Frank included,
ST. Rose baseball) were able to donate their time and
money to help us. Who would have ever thought a game
we played as kids could have led to what we are today.
Without the Crowley's, Warner's, and McCree's we might
have been doing something else!
Here's some other names from St. Rose's that had an effect
on my personal life. Casey, McGlone, Flanigan,O'Leary
Flusk,Bumgard, Davis, Samtambrosio (How did he get in here?), Cook, Ruddy. Name the sports or activties?
I know that looks like the marching order for some group
in one of today's Saint Patrick's parade. Every one of
these men gave back to our community. Not just for their own children but for everyone of us. I thank them!! |

I hope others will soul search and give people their due while they are still on this Earth to appreciate it. We are all touched by others that have helped to make us who we are. i have met hundreds, maybe thousands of people in my life, but no one was like Mr. Crowley. They should do a movie on his life. an american original.
