The wheels of justice move slow, but finally my appeal before the International Italian Hot Dog Council has come up on the calendar, and I have been given clearance to organize another scientific sampling of Essex County's premier Italian Hot Dog vendors to determine which has the better product.
Patrons of Bodholt's will recall that last year's mission resulted in a narrow victory for Jimmy Buff's over Dickie Dee's. Without impugning the integrity of the judges, one of whom was from Weequahic, I respectfully requested a do-over, and am now free to set a date.
Saturday seems a good day to conduct this study, so I'm suggesting May 13 or 20. Those interested in participating, please select the date that is better for you, and we'll narrow it down from there. Participants should remember that we will visit both establishments and will be eating at least a single Italian dog at each. Balloting will follow, supervised by the firm of Bud, Beck and Ballantine. Likely there will be socializing afterwards, depending on how the vote goes.

Hey Participants, If it comes to mind could you PLEASE ask either Jimmy's Or D Dees (or both) if they could ship large Quantities of Hotdog/Sausage sandwhiches to Calif? Jimmy Buffs did ship some to a pregnant lady (interesting craving) in Corona, Ca. and I called them. They shipped like 3 dozen or so sandwiches but they said they want to improve the shipping process, maybe someone can inquire and let me know. I would really appreciate it! :>)
I'm in on any Dog's shipped to California. We could use a little of the old neigborhood out here in California. I can just envision a FedEx box soaked through with grease. I can't wait.
Thank-you very much John! Honestly speaking, 2-3 days of cross country travel with "x"amount of freshness gone would stll equal greater then anything they have to offer out here! trust me on that one. lol
John,
I'll take a triple dose of Lipitor and meet up with you guys if it's on May 13!
But only if the contest is regulated by the firm of:
Dewey, Cheatham, & Howe
Pat and I are good for the 13th. We may have her son Brian join us for a non-biased opinion. If, he can resist my influence. Someone was supposed to suggest May 6th. I guess he forgot!!!!
Sorry, but Don is OUT. On the 13th we will be in Harrison at a memorial for my cousin and on the May 20, Don will be at the National Fire Academy. I know it will not be the same without him! HAPPY EATING!
We have the blessings of our very own "Rabbi Shlomo" who was at the First Fridays event this past week, in his words it's "GLAT".
What a great time I had, Thanks, Pat Purcell sending your delegation. Bobby Jones it was nice seeing you again. A million thanks to Marty for his invitation to his new home at the Keys in Florida. Donna, Mike, Bernie, Deb, Bill T. Pat and to all the regulars that didn't make this past week, you were missed.
4th Street Johnny. HS Track meets keep me busy on Saturdays till late June. (But you know how I'd vote). Are absentee ballots acceptable? Please send my regards to Ricky & tell him we love the autographed shirts!
thought you Newark hot dog fans would like to report your final results to the NJ press:"Do you have a recommendation for best hot dog in the state? Call the Munchmobile Hotline at (973) 392-1765 or e-mail pgenovese@starledger.com." Happy Hot Dogging!
Thanks, Rich. I hope to have good news to report. Everybody's welcome. Just show up at Dickie Dee's at noon tomorrow. You need some adventure in your life.
(Come to think of it, if you want adventure, go on that Newark walking tour.)
