In such god-awful hot weather I thought it might be refreshing to revisit a photo Skip Borsos sent in a while back. This image of the March 19, 1956 snowstorm was taken by Don Pearson from the front porch of 107 North 7th St. We're looking north, across Orange Street (that's Brohman's at the far right). I feel cooler already.
Wow, do I remenber that corner! I lived at 25 N. 7th Street and I have a lot of memories of places and friends who lived right there. Too hard to tell but worth remembering, the Coleman's, the Griffen's, Gus'es Deli, Tilmens et al.
Thanks for bring me back for a few precious memories
This picture was taken from 107 North Seventh St. We lived at 109, The Tree and Fence are actually in front of 109. At 107 lived the Pearson's and later the Schimpfs. at 111 lived the Durkins,Barry's and later the Martinez Family. Across the street in the apartment lived LeBert's, Colemans, Sudol, and Chrysohos families. the Frost family was directly across from
107 and next to the Wainen's. The Gaita family was directly across from the Wainen's. Joe Barbier lived up on top of the hill as did MaryAnn McConell.
I was very good friends with Donnie Pearson and his family. We attended Sussex Avenue and Arts High Schools together, Donnie being a year behind me. Don was always at my house at 492 Orange Street, especially when my mother baked a cake. She swore he could smell it from his house around the corner. My father had the photography studio "Gerard Studios" between Tilmes Stationary and Duetch's haberdashery, next to Grunnings'.
I grew up at my grandparents house at 181 North Seventh Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues and attended Garfield School until the 5th grade.
