It's December 1940, and Christmas trees are being offloaded in Newark. That could be "Johnny Boy" Soprano taking one off the top for the "family." Anyway, back then I doubt they cost more than a couple bucks! Photo courtesy NPL.

I remember going down there to by our Christmas and every fall my next door neighbor Mr Barone wouldtake me and his youngest son Dominick down there to by grapes for the wine he made

The last time we bought a Christmas tree on Chancellor Avenue
in 1962 we paid $5 for it....

We got ours from that little store on Second and Orange, the place that used to sell Italian ice in the summer and Halloween stuff in the fall. The trees would be lined up along the storefront and in the parking area next to it. Nice folks. I guess they took the winters off.

I remember Pudgy Smith's father selling Christmas Trees on a lot somewhere in Roseville.

Thomas Smith sold his trees on 7th ave and 7th st in a vacant lot ----- the lot later became the post office---
