Did you see Denny Doherty died last week? Only Michelle Phillips survives from the "Mamas and the Papas". I and some of my friends were very big fans during their brief period of stardom. Was anyone else ou there a fan? My wife and I went to see Denny's "California Dreaming" play in the Village in 2003. Some great songs. Cass was a sophomore and planned to go to Swarthmore......
I wish I could have seen them live, but I never did...
Mama Cass Elliot was, and still is, one of my favorite singers of all time.
She died of a heart attack, not by choking. That was a myth.
Her rendition of "Dream a Little Dream of Me" was absolutely wonderful.

Sweet dreams 'til sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me...

It's sad to see, as we grow older, people we loved passing away.
John Phillips has been gone for about six years or so. He was from Alexandria Va. where I lived for a while.
Any guy with eyes was deeply in love with Michelle Phillips. Her hair, her face... wow. She looked a lot like Peggy Lipton, (remember the Mod Squad?) who also spun my head around.
So now with Denny gone, only Michelle is left. God bless her. She and her friends gave us a lot of joy.
When I bought a M&P greatest hits CD a few years ago, I was astounded to remember how many great hits they had. My favorite was "12:30," which perfectly showcased Doherty and Elliott's fantastic harmonies. And what a crazy history that band had! RIP indeed to Denny, Cass and John.
