Type in "youtube" Then type in NEWARK RIOTS "at the stadium". Someone made a home movie of what schools stadium looked like during the 1967 riots. Really interesting looking back at the facility and the way First Avenue looked. Most of the video is the National guardsmen milling around, but this is the only video I ever saw of schools stadium. Doesn't it bring back memories? Six minutes and forty five seconds with a jazz score. Too bad there are not more ROSEVILLE videos on youtube. there is one regrettable FRANK MCCREE vidoe there as well.

Watched the video and it was interesting. I also viewed another one by Joseph Sarto called "Newark". I suppose one is meant to come away with a sense of the dichotomy that prevailed in 1968, the year following the riots. The clip flips between black and white and color footage to emphasize the two worlds of the "haves and the have-nots". As for myself, I think I relate a bit more to the black and white segments.

other video

I saw that as well. To me it contrasted how the new people who moved into our neighborhood left garbage rot in the alleyways and threw debris in front of their houses. Specifically Sussex Avenue between 4th and 5th Street. The stench would knock you over. They stayed out to 2 am yelling, hollering and breaking whiskey
bottles. We had two family members mugged, one almost killed, a car stolen and a home break-in and a theft. That is what memories the second tape brought me. A culture of poverty and violence fueled by a history of entitlement. It was not about black and white, but a struggle between the blue-collar middle class and the
uneducated lower class, many who had just migrated from the South, where they lived in the country and were not used to urban living. It was a most difficult transition.for all of us.

I was simply stating that the person filming was trying to be "artsy" by using black and white and color footage!

I understand.

The second video did bring back memories I had blocked out for years. It's funny how our mind chooses not to remember some things that were unpleasant. Please keep looking for more of these videos. Thank you.
