The recent passing of Phil Rizzuto prompts this photo taken a few years back at the Brooklake Country Club, where the Scooter liked to play golf. Pictured are John Anest, Jimbo Crowley (Brooklake's executive chef), the Scooter, John Jablczynski and Terry Curran. It's inscribed "To the boys from Newark, 'Holy Cow' Phil Rizzuto, HOF (Hall of Fame) '97." The morning I dropped by, the Scooter was having breakfast. He invited me to sit down for a cup of coffee, and autographed my Yankees cap for me. He was truly a fine gentleman and a great ball player, and of course a credit to the Garden State.
Hello John. This is Kenny Jaeger. I'm a new visitor to this site. It's GREAT. Nice work. My brother Kirk and I used to hang out with John Jablczynski and Terry Curran. I haven't seen them since the mid sixties. What year was this picture taken ?
I remember we would go over to John Jablczynski's house on summer mornings, with six or seven kids, to get John. Kind of like rounding up the pack. John's mother would invite everyone in, and she would make kielbasa and eggs for everyone. She treated us really good. A wonderful person.
PS-It was really good kielbasa...!
The Scooter always came into the kitchen to say hello and thanks...I think he also liked being shaken up by hearing me with my best St Rose Choir voice shout "Holy Cow" thoughtout the kitchen with a round of applause from my staff...Boy! he loved a good crowd
We were playing the course on a Monday when the course was closed (It's good to be the chef). The Scooter was playing with a foursome who won the game from Phil's charity auction for a school for the blind that he supported and gave his efforts for many years. He stopped on the course when he saw me and introduced me to his foursome as the Executive Chef of the club. I then opened my cooler bag from both of my golf carts (It's good to be the chef)and gave drinks and sandwiches to all of them. He was always very cool.
He was a damn good shortstop, but you were the MASTER of the Hidden Bsll trick. You must have won at least a half dozen games with that play. TONY PARISI and Dennis Barbiere may be at the next Frist Friday. Are you coming?
Been a long time, how's kirk? I still see John and Terry, actually, I am engaged to Terry's sister!!
Living in Toms River, Terry is living inSt.Petersburg, Fla., If you are reading this , it willl be great to hear from you and Kirk.
Hope all is well
Hello Jack. It's great to hear from you again. We had some great times at 20 Myrtle Ave, shooting billiards and listening to WABC. Man, we were in heaven. It's great to hear from an old friend after all these years. Congratulation on your engagement to Barbara. Hey man, I just thought of a good one. If you get married at St Rose, maybe Kirk and I can be your altar boys. I'll have to practice up on my Latin. I got your email and I'll give you a call. Kirk lives in Nesco, NJ, Atlantic County. He's not far from Toms River. He'll be surprised to here about you. I hope all is well with everyone. I'll talk to you soon.
