Finally tracked down this news story from the Star-Ledger from a couple months ago, with photo by William Perlman of the S-L. The photo was taken in the old Boy's Park, looking toward Sussex Avenue. The body of the story, written by Mark DiIonno, follows.

PILE OF JUNK

May 19 2008, 11:24 AM

John, That pile of junk is probably sitting directly across the street from our old house at 24 duryea st. The interesting thing is that the street sign at one end of the block said duryea st. while the sign at the other end said duryee st. Years ago Boy's park was well maintained with a running track, baseball field, swings and of course two bocce courts where distances were measured with sticks, fingers and arguements. Tony

Boys Park

Had a lot of fun back in the fifties playing at the boys park. There was a Bocci Ball court, Monkey bars, swings. Used to see skeeter there every once in a while.

I always thought that Boys' Park was part of Branch Brook Park and that the playground down in the park was Girls' Park just like the Oval in East Orange had a boys' playground at one end and a girls' playground at the other end.
