I was watching the movie "Bobby" on cable last night when it dawned on me that he was shot forty years ago today. I actually remember two things about that day. I was a junior at Seton Hall and had to go for an interview at Brookdale School in Bloomfield for student teaching that fall.
Then I remember stopping at Tilmes to buy stationary to send a 'thank you" note to the principal Mr. DeCamera. Tilmes was some store. One of my good friends from Third Street, who shall be nameless, used to take me there to "borrow" erasers and pens. Anybody have any memories of that day?
I was not long out of the army, going to graduate school at Seton Hall, and dating the girl I would marry. I remember that we were drivng down Rte 35 in Belmar, coming back from going to a movie in Asbury Park, when we heard the news on the car radio. We were both devastated.
