A guy came into the National Guard Museum today and I showed him around. When we got talking, he said he grew up in Newark. My next questionas always, was, where? The answer in this case was "13th Street near Park Avenue."

One thing led to another and it turned out he was an SRL alumni, class of 1944. He enjoyed the photo from the steps of St. Rose of the 102nd Cavalry guys marching into church in the late 1950s.

Then he told me that after he retired he had a part time job as a limo driver and ended up once with three nuns as passengers. This was after they had ditched the habits, and he only knew they were nuns because they told him. One was pretty old and, after they had a casual conversation and he disclosed that he had gone to St. Rose, she asked him when he graduated. After he told her, she exclaimed "you were a member of that terrible 7th grade class of 1943," and went on to name a number of the terrible kids in the class. He said he felt lucky she couldn't remember him.

It just goes to show, you can never get away. :-)

Unfortunately, I neglected to write down his name.
