Catherine R. "Kate" McCann
The funeral will be conducted from the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Ave., on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 9 a.m. There will be a Funeral Mass at Saint Rose of Lima Church, Newark, at 10:30 a.m. Interment is in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. For directions or to send condolences, please visit our website at www.biondifuneralhome.com and sign the guestbook. Born in Newark to Michael B. and Anna C. (nee Templeton) McCann on Oct. 18, 1910, Miss McCann moved to Bloomfield in 2003. Kate retired from the Bond Department from the Prudential Life Insurance Company in Newark in 1975 at 47 1/2 years. For many years, Kate was a volunteer at Clara Maass Medical Center, where she had knitted hundreds of caps for newborn infants. Her memberships and affiliations included: Prudential Retirement Association, where she served as president in both 1991 and 1992; American Association of Retired Persons, and the Saint Rose of Lima School Alumni Association, having graduated from the school in 1923. Her former memberships included: Branch Brook Manor Tenants Association, Senior Citizens of Roseville, The Rosary Altar Society and the choir, both at Saint Rose of Lima Church. Kate's family came to Newark from Ireland in the late 1850s and had been active parishioners at Saint Joseph's Church on West Market Street, where her great-grandmother, Mary O'Reilly Anthony, had donated a confessional when the new church was built in 1885. When the McCann family moved to Roseville, Kate's parents were instrumental in aiding in the construction of the present Saint Rose of Lima Church. An avid traveler, Kate made at least five trips to Ireland, the last being in 2002 to attend a grandniece's wedding. She was predeceased by her brother, Michael A. McCann; sisters, Marie E. Nael, Anna T. Minisi, Margaret V. Howlett and Helen R. Hudson; nieces, Judith A. Hamilton and Margaret R. Howlett, as well as grandnephews, Michael C. Hamilton, Timothy P. Corbett and Paul M. Corbett. Kate leaves 10 nieces and nephews; 32 grandnieces and nephews; 43 great-grand nieces and nephews and five great-great-grandnieces. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Saint Rose of Lima Church, Newark, or Job Haines Home in Bloomfield.
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
From the Carson/Fonden family. |
