Today is Veterans Day and to all you Veterans out there and to our troops everywhere, whether someone's brother, sister, mother, father, loved one or friend, a heartfelt THANK YOU.
My mom is 91 and a Marine Veteran. She was stationed in Washington D.C. during the war.
This is a bittersweet day for our family, since 1961, Veterans Day to us is the anniversary of my brother Kevin's death. He was in fourth grade at SRL, Mrs. Foti's class. All I remember was Fr. O'Leary coming to house to give last rites, and Fr. Flusk was the priest who performed the funeral Mass. Being he was in the Choir, he was buried in the cassock and surplus that they wore whenever they sang at the church. We were 16 mos. apart, and to this day we(mom, Terry and Artie) still talk about him, just to let each other know he may be gone, but NEVER forgotten.
Barbara, I vaguely remember that day. I think Kevin was 2 or 3 years older than me. Our thoughts and prayers will be with You, Terry, Your Mother and the rest of your family throughout this sad day. Lots of Love, Bob & Pat
90 years ago today, November 11, 1918, was the first Armistice Day. Fighting stopped in World War One. On that very day, Grandmother McCree died of the influenza epidemic of 1918. She was survived by her 9 month old son, Frank McCree, jr. and a husband Newark Police officer Frank McCree, sr, who would pass away in 1932. Today we want to thank all of the veterans out there past and present for their service and devotion to country.
Barb, I remember Kevin so well. He was my friend & I remember him sitting next to me in Mrs. Foti's class. He was such a quiet soul & a great kid. As for never forgetting, you are so correct. It always seems like yesterday & you always remember the day a loved one passes so clearly. My brother Anthony passed on August 3, 1964. I was the last to see him leave the apartment & the first to answer the door when the police arrived to inform my mother she lost a son....
I remember your mom too, (always very kind to me) you are so lucky to still have her in your life. God bless you, God bless Mrs. Curran & God Bless America..
We should all take a moment to pause & say a prayer for Kevin & all the Veterans who gave their lives for our America......
Barbara: I was honored to have been one of the pall-bearers for your brother Kevin. I was 12 years old at the time. We were all friends and classmates of Terry. I often remember that sad day. Hope your Mom is feeling well and tell Terry I said Hello. I will say a prayer for your family. Sincerly Ed Egan
Just a thank you to all of you for your thoughts and prayers. It makes a sad day alittle bit easier to handle. For that I am truly grateful. SRL people are really a family in itself. We may be scattered all over the states, but if one of us needs a pick me up, someone is always there to do it.Thanks again.
