For the benefit of those who may be new here at Bodholt's, this is a reminder that we post under our names as opposed to nicknames. That way everybody knows who's who. Thanks.

Tony Parisi, I remember watching a Junior League game; you were over age and they snuck you in to play center. Every time you fouled one off someone would go "that's a pareese of it Tony". I remember all you guys. Mr. Crowley playing tackle at Branchbrook, John McCree and the Roseville Ave baseball team. What a team! My brother Mike and I were friends with Danny Carlin, whose big brothers, Kevin and Chris, were awesome athletes and great people.

Well, Tony, I'll make an exception in your case, as it is common knowledge that you are Mr. Congeniality.

Pat, you must be thinking of someone else as I was one of the youngest players on the junior league, at least one year younger than the rest of the team. You are right about the Carlin's being exceptional athlete's though. Kevin and me were best friends on the team and I was saddened to learn of his passing a few years ago.

I won't argue the point, Tony, but if memory serves, you even had your own car and had someone warming it up in the last inning to make a quick getaway, before someone checked your roster status.
Kevin Carlin was a godsend to us "little guys". He ran our practices, managed our games, literally taught us how to play, and turned us into a pretty good team.
Remember the "Rebels"? You guys were so tough. Rock fights in Pigtail Alley, nobody messed with you guys, and by extension, nobody messed with us. The only person I'd ever seen give Kevin pause was his big brother Chris, and as far as Chris is concerned, I doubt Tyson in his prime coulda made him take a backward step. He was fearless and fearsome, mature beyond his years.

McAteer?

Hi Pat- are you related to Frankie and Ellen? Ellen was my best friend in 5th grade- I heard that they moved to Maplewood but were never able to connect.

Frankie, Ellen, Marian, Michael, me, Deirdre, Richie, Johnny, and Gerri, in order...if you went to St. Rose in the sixties, chances are one of us was in your grade at some point. I was the last to graduate SRL in '71. We moved to Maplewood that summer...I was crushed... I loved dirty old Newark.
My sister Ellen worked at AT&T for years, is now living in Cape Cod, and is part owner of a restaurant up there, Cape Cup. I will pass along your thoughts to her. I remember Ellen's friends Mary Neri, Pammy Kluss, the candy stripers who volunteered with her and Marian at Little Sisters of The Poor...Patty Culligan? I am not sure.

How wonderful to hear from you and about Ellen! Ellen and my claim to fame was getting lost in the World's Fair together! In sixth grade they split us up by last name so Ellen ended up in the 'other' class.
I know exactly how you felt about leaving Roseville- we left in 1970 and I hated South Orange. My younger brother was always taking the train back to Roseville Ave ( until he got mugged.)
Please say hi to all your family and see if you can get them online!

Pat, I'm sure Ellen has told you many stories of our years behind the iron gates. Ellen, Marian, Mary Neri, Kathy and Mary Lawrence, myself and many others worked our little fingers to the bones. I actually have a picture of myself on my desk right in front of me reading to a patient with my old blue unifirm on.
Little Sisters was a real home away from home. We had the run of the place after washing and waxing floors, making breakfast, clearing tables, doing patient care, working the laundry, cooking supper, serving meals, making beds, etc.,etc.,etc.
Ask Ellen if she remembers Sr. Lucy and our Saturday morning cleaning marathons. The perks were three squares plus snacks and the key to the Coke machine.
My warmest regards to your entire family.

Hi Mary,
Good to see you found Bodholts. The class of '68 has had a good turnout on this site and at functions and at First Fridays. Sad to see the posting about Marianne McAteer. Our class has lost quite a few good people.
Didn't you live on 7th Ave near 14th St? In the same apartment building as Bobby Johnson? And I think my sister Betty was friends with your sister? I used to go with my sister to that corner by your house and "hang out" with her friends at Pete's (the candy store on that corner where 7th Ave and 14th Street made a funny turn).

Bobby,
Yes, we lived in that apartment building until I was about 10 yrs. old and then we moved to East Orange but I continued going to St. Rose. How old is your sister Betty? I have two sisters - one will be 60 yrs old in March and the other is going to be 64 in June.
I haven't kept in touch with anyone since the early '70s. I happened to see that Mrs. McAteer died so I sent an online condolence and that's had I got back in touch with Ellen McAteer. That was also had I heard about Marian - I was shocked. Ellen told me about the website so I checked it out and was surprised at how many classmates were on it. It brought back many fond and not so fond memories! But lots of fun.
Keep in touch.
Mary

Mary, you're found! I posted a shout out to you about 2 years ago and got nowhere. I'm thrilled that Ellen told you about the site. You have to go back to early postings to get the real flavor of things. I'll send you an e-mail to get you up to speed. Bobby (Davis) says hello and welcome aboard.

Patti,
Did you wear a candy-striper type uniform? I think I remember seeing you in it.
My great-grandmother, Mary Brink, lived to be a hundred at Little Sisters. She was born the year Lincoln was shot, and outlived John Kennedy. And she was every bit the character that all those years could give her. Rest in Peace.

Marty, we actually wore a candy-stripe like uniform. It was a blue jumper and white blouse. I'm looking at a picture of it right now, and am going to try to scan it and send it off to John to post.
