Current movie with a very serious subject matter set in a city Catholic grammar school in the winter of 64-65. The culture of catholic schools of that time is captured. If you saw this movie, what did you think of it? Great performances by the four principal players. I preferred Slumdog Millionaire, The Wrestler, and Gran Torino myself, Another movie about city catholic schools of the 60's was "Heaven Help Us", set in an all boys catholic high school in the fall of 1965.

Dinner time

January 24 2009, 2:57 PM

Great scene contrasting dinner time @ rectory vs. convent. Nuns were eating in absolute silence while priests ate in party like atmosphere while sampling good spirts. Found out after all these years why it seemed nuns had "eyes in the back of their heads". Never thought of how they did it before. A good trick.

I cannot see a nun going against a priest in the 60's at all. The thoughts concerning sexual abuse by priests is so 2009 and not 1964.

Could not agree with you more......

I totally related to everthing in that movie. I think if you went to Catholic school all your life you fully understood & experienced much of the things that went on. Excellent acting by Streep, Hoffman & Adams. I was not pleased at all when Grand Torino & Clint were passed over. Thought slumdog was good but not exceptional & we are going to see my one time love "MICKEY ROURKE" in the Wrestler on Wednesday.....
