Hello everyone,
Just can't get enough of this site! Does anyone remember me class of 1957, SRL school. I lived on 234 3rd St. and have a Sister Debbie Massenzio.
Happpy New Year
Joan Marie
I remember you. You lived right across from the Tennis Courts on 3rd St., right past Louie Portella. We graduated St. Rose's in 1957. There are a few people who post on this site, now and then, who are from the same graduating year.
Hope all has gone as well as could be these many years past.
Wow Bob,
I was checking out our Graduation Pic just today and saw you behind me. I remember you so well ... a real gentleman for your age. Had good times and some bad. I pray all has gone well for you. This is a treat since I often dream of the days so long ago. I live in South Jersey now. I found a dear and very old friend today on this site from SRL, she is from the class of 1958.
Thank you for responding
I am lost in the old days and consumed for now and loving it.

Hi Joan. I was friends with your sister Debbie and your huge German Shepherd (sometimes). Also, I know your neighbor Enrico, who lived in the house next to you. Nice to see you here. Welcome.

Hi Judy- I lived on Second St - did you know the Guarino's? I wondered what happened to Carol- she was great friends with all the Ann Maries of Second St ( that would be Russo, Grasso, Richisio and Santucci)
She lives near the Brick Township area. Dan Dejannia's wife (Denise Molinaro) see's her from time to time. After newark they moved to Bridgewater in the 70's.
Hi Bob, Is that the great Louie Portella of NPD Detective fame. I served with Louie in the old Violent Crime Bureau Night Section. Those were the days when Newark had over a hundered Homocides several years running. Louie was one of the best detectives I ever knew. He solved many cases that they said couldn't be solved. Did he attend SRL?
Yes, Louie Portella lived on 3rd St. right across from the Tennis Courts. I know he was on NPD, as was many other locals from around 2nd-3rd Sts. He may have married the girl next door to him whose father was also on the NPD. I don't believe he went to SRL, but was a contemporary of my older brother. I know he signed to play major league ball in the mid-50s, but I guess it didn't work out. When we played softball at the Tennis Courts, he often joined in with some others his age and we'd even out the teams. He was an outstanding player and really gave the ball a ride when he hit. I do also think possibly he may have been an All-Sports, All-City athlete at Newark Central HS(?). You'd have to get others to confirm that.
Park now being called "First Street Park". Basketball courts, walkways, benches, children's play area now under construction. Work is also underway at the little park closer to Park Avenue. We should go to the dedication.
IS JUDY MESSENZIO STILL MARRIED TO A GUY NAME BILL I FORGET HIS LAST NAME. I WAS IN HER WEDDING. WE LOST CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER . IF YOU HAVE ANY INFO PLS LET ME KNOW. THANKS
Wowwww John, just caught this! You may be "PSYCHIC" :))))

Joan Marie
PS
it looks better than I thought
After we left Roseville, apparently a swarm of vinyl-siding salesmen descended upon the neighborhood and clad every dwelling in the awful stuff. Here's another shot:

Thanks fo the pictures of 3rd Third even if they are not like we remember. I lived at l62 Third Street. We moved to vailsburg in l951. I loved living there near the Park. I loved the neighbors. St Rose of Lime Church and Scool. I think we rented from Bobby Molinaro's grandparents. They were very kind to us. Imagine have 3 active kids living above you. E.Alma Flagg School is now where I lived. I know that others have looked for a phote of that block of 3rd Street in its "golden days" but were unable to find one. I am asking again perhaps some new to the site might have a picture of the home where I hav my happiest childhood memories.
