From summer 1958 comes this great shot of Newark City Subway Car 14 taken by Fred W. Schneider III, discovered on eBay. Bonus points for whoever can name the station.
The overpass was not as long as Bloomfield Avenue. Davenport has no overpass. I see the driver is white, so it can not be my favorite driver MISTER NIXON.
That the driver was white shows that it's an old picture. Even the boarding passengers were white; that's the last time there were that many white people on Park Ave. at the same time, unless they were riding firetrucks or radio cars.
Devenport has a bridg over the track. I played on it most of my young life
It was more like a cat walk made of steel. Its still there. entrance to Branch Brook Park
I think faster than I write. I should have written Davenport does not have a bridge for vehicular traffic. Bloomfield Avenue and Park Avenue do. Think I will take a ride this week. Road up Orange Street on Friday and saw Phil and Charles Tavern at N.5th Street and orange is now Franco and Franco Tavern Number 2.

On the 28th of March 2009 a totally new light rail system will begin to operate here in Austin Texas ,The first of its kind to this area. I’m looking forward to it.
I mention it because of all the years that spent playing ,living, riding the Newark City Subway. I lived on N.6th street and except for the fence , the subway was my back yard. Lord Knows it was my play ground .So take a ride for me , The last time I road it was in 1958
Where can I find pictures of the cars from the city subway?
My father dove them in the Sixties and early Seventies.
This picture and the previously posted one are great.
Please advise.
Thanks again John (Dream Weaver)Memory Lane... WOWWW I lived so close I lived on the subway part time going to Downtown Newark. Used the subway to come and go to Park Beauty School and so much more. I can see myself walking to Barringer and into Beautiful Branch Brook Park, ahhhh the memories. Feels like yesterday.
