We've always appreciated great track runners
as St Rose's produced a slew of them. Then we
had Johnny Mc Cree step up and begin a new era,
"The Throwers". When I think of all the throwers I've
seen in my life, and their dedication to their sport
(and event)I'm amazed at their accomplishments.
With physical strength, (no steroids) they are still
setting the bar higher. How high can it go??
I read yesterday that the kid(sophmore)Nick Vena just threw
the shot put 70 feet 5 inches. He is only the 4th person
to break the 70 foot barrier. Johnny Mac?? How high can
this thing go???????? Did you start recruiting him for
St John's yet? What could he do with a hammer??
Tony will see the kid this spring. His son is an up and coming freshman weight man for Mt. Olive, which is in the same conference. Lacrosse seems to really be taking kids away from track and baseball in New Jersey now. I know nothing about it. But in Maryland where my relatives live, that is all some kids play 12 months a year. But as long as you have coaches like Brother Naclerio and John, you will continue to see great throwers and incredible performances.
Glad to see you have contacted this site. I was good friends with your sister Mary. Please tell me what's going on with her, as I would love to catch up. Also, is you father still around? I remember his 1960 Lincoln....
Take care & God Bless.....
Mark. A blast from the past! Been a long time. I just read of your existence
on my sister's computer. Hope you and your family are doing well esp. your Dad as I remember him as one hellava good man. I hope he is still around for you, if not I am sorry. But hey-been there done that. Really, I remember you
has a good teammate and your Dad as a great supporter of us all. God bless him, first. God bless you and your family, too. Yes, we were a great team. Only a few were better to beat us. So many years have passed and there are entire lifetimes to talk about. What's important right here and now in this
simple writing is that we all started and came from the same place, on the same footing. yes there are so many memories between all of us from the
Roseville section. I started my memoirs of my deepest memories beginning with
life and death at St Rose's. I started it on February 22, 2009 and on page 120 at presemt. If not all of your names are there which their not, you are all in my heart as I'm writing. Well, anyway, Remember good ole slap-shit Sister Rose, kick-ass but good guy, Father Cassidy(was that his correct last name?-the short Irish accented dark haired and balding on top, guy?) and fall-asleep, pick-her-nose-while snoring, Sister Regina. What great times! In order to end this religious scripture, I just have to say I'm glad that so many of you great guys and girls are still around and at least together on computer. I hope everyone is well.
I'm still alive too and would love to hear from any one of ya'.
Hey Billy... Are you Billy w/sister Liz? Formerly N.6th St. on the first floor of my couin Bernie's house? Wondered how you were doing. Are you still in Kearny? I remember the last time I ran into you was in St. Stephen's at your son's and my nephew's confirmation... about 12-13 years ago. A group met last night at Cryan's for the April first Friday. Try to come along one month! The class of '65 generally leads the pack. It would be nice to see you again. Even if this isn't Billy from '65, come along anyway... We always like to see new faces in the crowd.
One of the best relay teams that helped win the CYO Championship
for Saint Roses back in the early 1960s was McGraf, Brown, Novack, Figaro.
Eagan ran a great 50 yard dash.
Jimmy, missed you again @ the parade. Maybe next year. I was at the same meet Vena broke 70',only the following day. The Shot Put is Saturday & the Weight Throw on Sunday. I only had Weight Throwers compete this year.
Br. Nick taught him so.... there's a 'Nork' connection. How far can he go? The sky's the limit. No HS-er has achieved what he has at his age. They told me that with my thrower in 2007 when he broke the national mark going 86' with the 25 pound Weight. This year, a senior hs kid from California went 93', so go figure.
Bernie, he transfered from NC after his coach left for Oklahoma. He's now @ LSU for his soph season. He finished the indoor season with the 2nd best throw in the NCAA. Last summer he won the Junior World Champs Hammer in Poland.
Jonsey, you can still be on any relay you want.
And....welcome back Mark McGlone...SRL, Seton Hall & St. Lucy Cadet.
Hey Bill, sorry I broke your erector set back in '62. I felt bad when you threw me out of your house, but I'm OK now. Glad to see you here, and I look forward to reading your memoirs.
