Can't recall who sent this letter in (Laura Davis?), but it's a scream. Oddly enough, coming from nuns it was pretty low-key. Anyway, as it is prom season, this is presented as a public service.

Someone we know had her prom pictures deleted from the yearbook. The good sisters thought the dress inappropriate. Yes, it was Good Counsel High School around 1952. At Essex Catholic we were told that our pants had to have cuffs. We protested by wearing wide ties (in fashion today), instead of the narrow ones of 1962. I wore a dark dress shirt to school one day and Brother Ward asked me "Are you one of Al Capone's men" ?

My prom (such as it was) happened in 1971- I wore a one piece black palazzo pant outfit ( very shocking for it;s time)that was purchased at Hahne & Co for the princely sum of $25.00
My date was a fix up from Regis High School- I went to his prom at the Waldorf in NYC and the Valley's was the next day
There was a ritual that before the prom - you stopped into the convent on Valley St to visit the nuns, introduce your date and show off- I do recall that all of them were very teary and appreciative - then ..like Batman... off to the Wayne Manor , like Barbie & Ken for an unforgetable evening..


lets just say- it was a very forgetable evening and leave it at that.

I brought that letter to our first reunion at SRL (8 years ago??? I can't remember). I made copies (in Principal Wilson's office) for those who wanted copies. I don't remember if I gave one to you, John, but my own kids thought it was just a joke. I assured them it was not.
