Another form the Berg Collection is this shot of Orange and S. 11th streets. The Belrose Restaurant on the corner was a great eatery, and a few doors down was my favorite comic book store. Of course, we denizens of "lower" Orange Street had to watch it up here.
I had a 1960 aqua and white Chevy Impala from February 1964 until May 1966. The car pictured is not the same year as the back is a little different, but it appears very similiar. 59 or 61? How did we ever park those big boats?
The resemblance is the white flat roof. We bought the car used for $900. In 1966 we bought a new chevy malibu for $3200, but that is another story. Peters Chevrolet, Central Avenue.
This part of Orange St. brings back many childhood memories. Throughout the 60's I would run errands for several stores between Gray and No.11th Sts. Every day after school, on Saturday's and during the summer breaks I would get breakfast, lunch, dinner or anything else the local workers needed. Most of the time they ordered from the Belrose. Kathleen, I sure your Mother waited on me hundreds of times. The people there were all very nice to me. Once in a while I would treat myself to breakfast or lunch. I will always remember how kind and generous all of the people who worked along Orange St. were. They kept me out of trouble most of the time. The parking meters were generous too! Right, Jack! Kath, say hello to Gail Gilmartin. We are all waiting for you both to show up at First Friday in Cryan's. BD
Like I said Bob, I know she reads these posts. In fact she commented on my mother working there. So...Gail if your listening, they want you to come to First Firday. What do you say?
How ya doin'? I spent many lunch times at the Belrose. Your Mother always treated me special. My friends were impressed. I spent my many lunch times there but I do not remember spending a dime. She always forgot to give me a bill. She was and still is a great lady!
