Martha Lane sends in this reminder of Rallo's Cafe Rosa, one of two outstanding Italian eateries on Orange Street. I get hungry just thinking about this place and Vulcania's down the street.
Thanks for posting that Rallo's card. My Mom Gloria Iwansky worked are Rallo's for a long time. And who else remembers theirs? Our phone number on Myrtle Avenue was Humbolt 2-1454.
Johnny, being a fan of fine Italian food and having eaten in both of these establishments I don't think you can begin to compare the food. I believe it was much better at Vulcania's enhanced of course as has been mentioned before by one of the first color televisions in the neighborhood. I'd also like to know if anyone else noticed that it was usually set in different shades of green excluding most other colors. The other thing that I found funny was that even though you could order food late on a friday night, Mr. Suppa [I believe that was the owner/chefs name] would come out to watch the monologue on the Tonight Show and you had to wait till it was over to get your food.
1) VULCANIA 2) RED FALCONE'S Bloomfield Avenue 3) BRANCH BROOK MANOR Mill Street 4) MARIO'S Passaic. (for pizza). I heard a rumor twice this weekend that Richard and Bruno recently sold Dicky Dees. It was said that the new owner has kept the name and the hot dog recipe.
