After hearing about the ouster of Msgr. Granato from his home of 54 years and the death of former little league coach Joe Freid, it was time for some better news. Despite swirling rumors to the contrary, Dickie Dees has NOT BEEN sold. Richard and Bruno and their wives are still the owners and the hot dogs were even better today than the first time I had one 45 years ago. The manager told me that almost every time the establishment closes for vacation, the same rumor starts.
I took another little tour. After almost a year of work, the new Boys Park and First Street Park (tennis courts) are still not open. Boys Park looks finished with two basketball courts, benches, sidewalks, bocci courts, a small fry playground and field house. The gates were padlocked with a sign "under construction". Work is going on at the 'courts' and it appears almost ready. Hurry up, please, school has been out three weeks now. Even though I did not see one single kid this afternoon, I know they are out there somewhere. Schools Stadium has been taken down, but no work has begun on the new stadium. I guess no football this fall.
Boy, were those hot dogs special!
In front of the Coney Island Resturaunt a vendor selling tee shirts had set up a stand. He had a flag from one of the emerging African nations above his stand and a sign advertising white tees. Business was brisk,
as the white tees, extending to just above the knees, seemed to be popular with the young adult males populating the street corners.
I am absolutely appalled that the Archbishop, etc. has seen fit to remove this wonderful man from St. Lucy's. The Archbishops and Cardinals have done mortal damage to the Holy Roman Catholic Church. They ignored pedophilia, allowed homosexuals to run the seminaries, protected and supported men who abused children, covered it up, and moved these evil men from parish to parish. It cost religious Catholics hundreds of millions over the years, destroyed the reputation of the Catholic Church, made us a subject of derision and scorn, destroyed the reputations of all the Holy nuns and priests who gave their lives for all of us and caused the closing of Catholic schools which saved most of us and gave us superior educations, character, morals and ethics. Here is a man, who devoted to entire life, to the Church and Parish. It is amzaing to me to see older Italians who have died--being Irish I always read the obits, having teir families return to St. Lucy's to for Requiem Masses no matter where they live now. This is a special man punished by this abominable hierarchy. Did Jesus really want "Princes" of the Church to punish a man like this wonderful person? I wonder who Jesus would remove???? Margaret M. Padula
Most of us agree it was wrong to remove the monsignor, but what can you expect? When you subscribe to a religious hierarchy, you take what you get.
Despite books, prophets, traditions or theories, real knowledge of God comes at death, if at all. The rest is show biz, and the Catholic Church gets the Oscar.
