Music has always had an ability to take me to a remembered place. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that a song can be an engram which can, and if only briefly, refresh a time and place. I get a kick out of looking at the Billboard 100, and chronicling my life. No better tool and here's a link to the top 100 hits of the day. You can pick a year, my favorite is 1961, and if I had a magic wand?

Craig...

Talk about music taking you back in time...my wife and I are off to see Paul McCartney tonight. I've been singing Beatles songs for two days now and didn't even see him yet!

RIP Gordon of Peter and Gordon 7-17-09

As they were walking down Asbury Park boardwalk in 1964 to get to Convention Hall, Chris Carlin whacked Gordon on the shoulder with a golf ball from our miniature golf game. We used to crack up at the mature appearance of young Chris. Rocky's Guess your weight and age tabbed the 16 year old for 21 and wanted to know "how did you get so ugly in such a short time'. Some people matured earlier than others. Ricky Torti tended bar at Marinella's at 17 because he looked 27. At 55 , he still looks 27.

Peter and Gordon

I saw them at Asbury Park, and I was sad when I saw of Gordon's death. I recall seeing Herman's Hermits, Paul Revere and the Raiders and Blues Magoos among others at Asbury Park. However, the highlight I cherish is seeing Herman's Hermits and the lead in band for them, The Who. (A story the kids have heard more than once.) Now, thanks to things like Guitar Hero and Rock Star the kids are familiar with lots of our music and it's fun to hear it blasting from the living room again!
