This photo has run before, but it's a favorite. Sent in, I believe, by Skip Borsos, it was taken in Branch Brook Park, looking toward the old reservoir/skating rink and the cathedral. Very near this spot I tumbled headlong over my scooter's handlebar after hitting a rock at the bottom of that big paved hill that led from Orange Street. A trip to Presbyterian Hospital and a few stitches in my head followed. Ah, memories.

I remember walking down that path so very many times with Rita DaSilva, Mary Ann Evans and Debbie Cordasco going to the Skating Rink.

Gail, Renee and myself would walk that path from Park Ave many many nights. Sometimes 4 or 5 nights a week. Through Branch Brook park at night. The "good old days".

Branch Brook Park Boat House Not Shown Left of Picture

November 17 2009, 1:20 PM

I remember ice skating on the Branch Brook Park lake. I seem to recall that the ice had to be at least 7 inches thick and was inspected by the Park Supervisors.
A red flag would go up on the flag pole The few times it was ok to skate. (Skating at the Boat House Area Only) and the Boat House was open at night or at least early dusk.
I also remember playing baseball in the Reservoir before the ice rink was built.
General Electric had a mobile science exhibition in the reservoir and Barringer students attended.
The Reservoir rim was used by Barringer Mile runners to train and Branch Brook Lake was circled by the training Cross Country Team.
