From the George Conrad Collection comes this photo of the Cedar Street Subway being built. This view from Washington Street shows the completed tunnel and station and, beyond, the two-block-long tunnel's destination, the new Public Service Building. Photo taken November 24, 1915.
I was so excited I forgot to finish my message. That's an incredible photo. What's even more amazing is that when the trolley lines were dismantled they called it progress. Now every time a new lightrail line comes online they call that progress. Seems more like reinventing the wheel to me. They will never have the money to recreate the infra-structure they destroyed. With gas hovering around $4.00 a gallon I sure wish I could take a trolley.
