In the "QB Forum FAQ & Samples" subforum, click on any post that is in response to another.  See the "Response to [another post]" link at the top of the post?  What about having that in the main QBasic forum as well?

Sometimes people post responses to posts beyond the first few pages and it's a pain finding out who they are responding to.  For example, what is http://www.network54.com/Forum/13959/message/1199957944/ in response to?  It would be a pain to figure it out without a "Response to ..." link.

That might take a javascript...

Like the one the I-Man donated. If I recall correctly, N54 gives you one format or the other, you can't mix them. The main forum is better as is, with the dates arranged in order. The sub-forums are a pain to keep track of, because new posts climb to the top. I would recommend this:

If you have a javascript, open a quick N54 account, it only takes about 10-min, and try your script out. That's what the I-Man did. If it works, I'd be all for it and it would be just as easy to implement as the indentation script was.

I would also recommend giving the test results back in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for thinking of all of us, CG,

Pete

Okay

I think not having the link is worth not having the messages out of order, so nevermind if no one can find a javascript way to do it.  I might experiment with it later to see if I can figure it out, but I can't make any promises since I don't know JS well.

But ComputerGhost...

I presume you are referring to this problem:

- You are in the Community index, http://www.network54.com/Index/10167
- You see a response, but if you click on it, you cannot find the thread

But if you look to the left of the entry, you see a little box. If you click on that instead of the reply URL, you will get the OP and all replies are shown. Doesn't that solve the problem?

oh right, in the list of forums

January 12 2008, 11:57 AM

that works for the list of the most recent post from each forum, right.

but say you look up something on google, and end up at a post that isn't recent, and then you want to see the op? some of the forums will show you the parent post, but not all, including the one that cg posted as an example.

Awesome!

Thanks, Mac, I never new that box did anything at all.

I always wonder about posts in the index, so my problem is fixed; but, as mennonite mentioned, if someone looks something up on google and come to a post or comes to a post a different way, they're still out of luck for finding the original post.

As Pete mentioned, this problem probably can't be fixed without JavaScript because the forum formats from which Network54 lets you choose can't be mixed.  For now, I'll let someone else continue this quest to find a solution, but I might pick this up again later when I know JavaScript.

Thanks again for pointing out that box on the index.  It really helped me out.
