I guess you guys have crystal balls to tell the future. I have no idea of what Obama is going to do. I just know that some of his campaign promises have disappeared from his web-site.
What I do know is the most expensive embassy ever built - also one of the most expensive buildins that will not go away, nor be left by the U.S. The expensive U.S. military base will not be left either and will remain manned by U.S. military people for a long long time -unless we go broke, which becomes a stronger possibility every day.
For those not paying particular attention, we are mired down in Afghanistan. Many of the U.N. countries are pulling out or cutting their participation. So in order just to maintain the level of forces their the U.S. HAS TO increase the number of troops. The Soviet Union was there for 14 years and that war broke them. So I don't see a surge as of any particular benefit.
As for Iraq being liberated and a democracy I see that as hogwash. It wasn't liberated it was invaded and demolished couple3d with mass murder. As soon as the U.S. pulls out it will go right back into anarchy until some tribal chief assumes total dictatorial power. And he may be far worse than Saddam. But of course it won't matter as long as he kisses our arse. | |
