Anyone want a GESTAPO to rule their life?

I don't know what the Germans are now calling their secret police, nor what success they have had with uncovering terrorist planning sessions in their country, if any, but I assume that many people in many other countries would not like police spying on them and their activities. What would Eric Blair (pen name is "George Orwell") write in 2008/9 about 9/11 and other more or or less recent terrorist activities in the news?
