Humor is an important and special thing to me. And it made me think about what humor is and what is funny for a a while. And I've come to the following:
Anything can be taken out of context - when the serious is, it can be funny. When the funny is, it can be serious. To me that simply underscores the profoundness of humor - that it captures a truth, or part of a truth, that we're not able to capture any other way.
And like any "offense", it's in the hands of the offended to address raising what is offensive.
I happen to find human frailties and vanities to be funny. So hairless men, hairy women, people with plastic surgery, tatoos & piercings, lots of make up, people with implants, blue hair, and/or whatever... To be hilarious. No disrespect intended. I'm sure all those folks are equally humored by my puritannical & Mister Rodgers like perspective, which doesn't offend me at all. | |
