Your reference to the slaughter of the innocents Vince, brought to mind something I had read in T.W.Doane's BIBLE MYTHS AND THEIR PARALLELS IN OTHER RELOTIONS. All of the below was copied from this book.
The following is an account of the infant Crishna, born to a virgin names Devaki some 2,500 years B-c
Crishna's father was warned by a heavenly voice to "fly with the child to Gacool, across the river Jumus," as the reigning monarch sought his life.
The ruler of the country in which Crishna was born, having been informed of the birth of the divine child, sought to destroy him. For this purpose, he ordered the massacre in all his states, of the children of the males sex born during the night of the birth of Crishna. The Monarch's name was Kansa.
Representations of this flight with the babe at midnight was sculptured on the walls for all to see of ancient Hindu temples.
This story is the subject of an immense sculpture in the cave-temple (for all to see) at Elephanta, where the children are represented being slain. The date of this structure is lost in the most remote antiquity. It represents a person holding a drawn sword, surrounded by slaughtered infant boys.
Other infant saviors born to virgins and with pretty much the same story are:
Salivahana, Buddha, Hau-ki (Chinese), Horus, Cyrus, Abraham, Zoroaster, Perseus, Aesculapius, CEdipous, the Trojan Paris, Chandragupta, Jason, and Bacchus.
