Here's another rendering of that verse, from the New American Catholic Bible:
If running against men has wearied you, how will you race against horses? And if in a land of peace you fall headlong, what will you do in the thickets of the Jordan?
In context, Jeremiah is speaking about how Israel has given in to temptation, so - "If you can't stay straight, how can you hunt with the big dogs?"
A good verse for the US society to think about, no? It wasn't too much longer after this that God began sending Israel off into exile.
