2:5. "Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?"
It's easier for one who is materially poor to trust the Lord than it is for a person who has material wealth, and those who have nothing but their faith in the Lord are spiritually rich and because of their faith, have been made joint heirs with Christ. Jesus declared that it would be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than it would be for a rich man to enter into heaven because the rich man trusts in his wealth. His desire is in his wealth which he thinks will provide him with everything he needs.

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God to salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." (Romans 1:16)
