Video editing on Mac (a big project) - software?

Is buying Final Cut Express going to be my best bet for editing a full-length production with 2-3 camera sources?

I had a friend who was going to give me an installation of it, but he can't find it. I have basically two months for this project (since I haven't been able to start, yet). This is two-camera video of a stage production each with audio.

I have a secondary question, for those who might have an idea. I have experience editing, but I've never multiple video footage of the same action. I'm thinking that the best thing to do is rip an audio track from one of the videos and then plug and play my visual choices from camera 1 and camera 2 (to avoid blips in sound). Anyone have a better suggestion? I'm just assuming I can do this on Final Cut.

Avid Media Composer vs. Final Cut Pro

June 24 2009, 2:30 PM

Avid Media Composer is still what the pros in the industry use most, though there has been some encroachment on the market by Final Cut Pro.

For projects with multi-camera synching, Avid's media management is significantly superior to Final Cut's. Downside is that as software, Avid's products tend to buggier, and their customer support - though it has improved since FCP started making inways into their market - is still mediocre.

For a lot of features at a low price (many of which you may never use), Final Cut wins hands down. But for pure video editing power, you're better off with Avid.

Have gone with Final Cut Express, but who's used it?

I'm having trouble with the learning curve. As I'm trying to make a rough cut, I'm having a tough time. All my editing training was on linear video, 15 years ago.

Transition help?

nice idea, but...

apparently, I didn't activate my paid-for AppleCare "in time", so it's null.

very pissed about that when I found out about that this winter.

If you have recently bought Final cut, it comes with its own additional support.. worth trying (from someone who works at Apple)

Didn't realise you meant software specific, rather than the general AppleCare.

thanks.

wee---yull...

Any new software purchase (of Apple software) does include a period of comp phone support... And the pro apps (final cut, logic, apperture) have their own support arrangements beyond that... From a different support group
