Anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a workaround?

I usually can't open videos from TV show websites, so no back videos of my favorite shows. sad.gif

Hunh. So it seems...

...that the problem is with flash videos. But not ALL flash videos, cause I can watch some but not others.

Anyway, thought I'd post that little tidbit in case it rang some bells for those reading.

Edited:

AND these videos will play in Safari but not Firefox. Grrrrr.

Back to troubleshooting...

Just out of interest.....

can you open WMV files if someone sends one to you? If not, try installing VLC or Flip4mac (both free vid players). Also, do not forget to try real player as well...

If it is only with flash based vids, there could be an issue with not having the right version of flashplayer (try going to adobe and looking for an uptodate version...

If you haven't already tried this...

First, make sure you have the latest updates to both browsers. FireFox should update itself (if not, you can download it from Mozilla), and Safari updates using Apple Update.

Next, download the current FlashPlayer and re-install it - it will update any damaged installation in both Safari and Firefox:

Finally, download and install the latest Flip4Mac, to make sure Windows Media files can play in both browsers.

Since you said Safari works fine, there is likely something wrong with the plug-in(s) installed in FireFox.

Thanks gents.

I've updated both Safari and Firefox, and reinstalled the latest version of flash.

I will admit that Flip4Mac isn't the smoothest install. I download it, go through the motions of installing, but don't see any of the prompts that the FAQ says should show up. So that's probably the route of the problem. However, I don't understand why I can play streaming video from some sites that use flash (ie, youtube) and not others.

I'll continue to play with it. It's likely something silly. At least I know that I can play the movie in Safari. Not my favorite browser, but it works in a pinch!

Thanks!
