Florida Virtual School

For those of you in Florida, the state offers (free) high school (and some middle school) academic courses for credit. A transcript is available for courses taken through FLVS. The Florida Virtual School motto is "any time, any place, any path, any place". Course offerings range from foreign languages to computer to AP courses.

My son just finished his first course with FLVS and has signed up for more. It has been a great experience! His instructor kept in touch continually, graded his work promptly, and gave him good feedback when he did well, and helpful hints and suggestions when he was stuck.

The course offerings attract many different students. Some students are in traditional schools but can't fit all the courses they want into their schedule; or they want to take extra courses in the summer. And there are all us homeschoolers! Placement in courses depends on the priority needs of students. (Those who are high school seniors who need a particular course for graduation get a higher priority than a 9th grader, for example.) It's really a great option. It's free, and everyone I know is VERY happy with it for their homeschooling teens.

It is a great deal for FL residents because it is free and we keep our homeschool status.
