I have always loved animals so much, especially dogs and cats, that sometimes it is hard for me to read these wonderful stories about human-animal relationships. Crazy, I know. As a kid I thought I wanted to be a vet but something held me back. Instead I ended up an RN. To this day, even though I have been a nurse x 30 years, when one of my animals is not feeling well or hurt,I feel so sad and scared along with them. It's nuts. I took a peek at today's excerpt: (day 2) and think I really want to read this book. I have my own "Merle" now and he is elderly and quietly slowing down.He has been the absolute dearest and most loyal friend I've ever had. But probably anyone reading this knows what I am talking about. I don't know for sure, but my current dog is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime dog as I think it sounds like Merle was to this author.
I visited the author's web site and absolutely loved the video of Merle set to his favorite music....it is worth the inevitable hankies... In fact, I ordered the CD! To the author: thank you for this beautiful story...I AM going to read it!
