I sure do miss Anne George and her books. She was such a lovely person. Phillip Depoy is also a favorite. Hmmm...I believe you've hit on two big influences. Thanks - now I know what to say when people ask me whose books mine are like! :) A couple of other books that have been on my mind a long time are The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter and She Walks These Hills by Sharyn McCrumb. They have a little supernatural in them, a little folklore, and are set in southern mountains. They also have ecological themes, something else I enjoy reading.
