After the severe injury of his baby half-sister, Nikki--an injury he's suspected of causing--Branwell suddenly loses his ability to speak. His best friend Connor is sure Branwell wouldn't have hurt Nikki, but how can he prove it when Branwell can't speak for himself? An ALA Best Book for Young Adults.

Why is it that sometimes book charactors sound like people you really want to meet? That is sooo annoying because you can't meet them in person and hang out together. Anyway, Branwell sounds like a very cool person. Totally together and surprising, both, and that's the best way for a person to be. Can't wait for tomorrows read to see what he will be saying first when he comes out of his silence.
I think Branwell doesn't want to talk for just one reason-he doesn't feel the need to. Why would he want to, especially after his beloved younger sister was almost dead? He doesn't need to explain what happened, and maybe is still in shock of it.
If Bran doesn't say anything at all it will just make it that much harder. Not only is he stewing about what happened but the people who could help would probably send him to a nuthouse because they don't know what's wrong.Yeah, it sounds like he never liked the way people have treated him all of his life because he had been different<and people can't stand it when they see someone doing anything even resembling eccentric>but this way out being quiet seems worse.
I think that raises a question about communication itself. People always have misunderstandings....will those people really know what's wrong even if he does talk? Or maybe they would examine everything he says and strip every word until the whole thing is confused. Maybe there will be a communication problem whether or not he speaks.
Welps. I guess different people cope in different ways.
What do you mean when you say his being quiet seems worse?
