I don't subscribe to this particular bookclub, but I have had the good fortune to read this book. I highly recommend it. Also, "Isaac's Storm" by the same author, about a killer hurricane that decimated Galveston, Texas.

I recently heard an interview with the author of this book. The events actually happened during the World's Fair in Chicago 1893. The buildings were all painted white: the White City. The plot centers on a diabolical serial killer and the archithect of the city. I will definitely read this one.

Really wonderful writing of two true stories in one. Makes you excited to learn about our colorful, historical people and places. Quite an engineering job. Can't even imagine such a thing today. So glad I read this and have recommended it to my book club.
