Mystery Book Club The Amber Room by Steve Berry Buy book: $15.72
The Amber Room centers on one of history's greatest mysteries--the disappearance of the Amber Room, one of the greatest treasures ever made, during the Allied bombing of Germany.
Think it's time to hit the delete key now after the first read -- don't know if there was an Amber Room, may research that -- but don't want to read this book --
What an end to the first installment. I can hardly wait to find out what happens next. The topic of the book "The Amber Room" is certainly laced in mystery itself and I am curious to read how the author unfolds the mystery.
Well, I did do a little researching on the computer about the Amber Room, found out more than I really needed to know, but I am a curious person and always like to learn something new.
Hate to say I did read several reviews of this book and most of them were not good. Most seemed to agree wth me- would rather have a non fiction book about the amber room.
I find myself being pulled in, the descriptions of the cold have me shivering, and although my mind revolts at the cruelty, I do want to know where this is going. I will keep reading throught the week, and will, most likely get this book.
I am horrified by this torture and if the book continues in this vein I will have to delete. I am intrigued by the Amber Room and must look it up as I see others have also done.
I became hooked during the read today. Reserved the book at my library and found there are a lot of holds already. Today's read was facinating! The cruelty was hard to read but necessary to get you to see the depths people would sink to find this treasure. I think it was a fantastic, engrossing way to open the story. And let's all remember...it is fiction.
I started reading this book and thought that this would have been somewhat of a history book. What I mean is that I have read a book entitled "Auschwitz and the Allies" describing the horrors prisoners of concentration camps such as Auschwitz, Buchenwald, and Birkenau went through when Nazi Germany was trying to take over the world. The beginning of the book sounds like what Goring or any of the SS officers would have done to the prisoners. Today's reading sounds completely different from what I expected to happen next. It seems like comparing day to night. Will have to read on further.
I thought that the ending of the segment for today was wonderful. It nicely wove together the historical part of the concentration camps with the more modern portion of the book. I have already borrowed the book from the library so that I can finish it.
I am intrigued by this one. I saw this book before but I wasn't really interested. Now with these excerpts, I want to finish this book. I like the characters and the writing style.
Just a note that the author left out another triangle color, there was also the purple triangle for prisoners that were Jehovah's Witness who refused to participate in the war effort.
