I'm finding this to be in the best tradition of sport-fishing writing, albeit with an author who recognizes the controlled insanity of his passion. As one who has thrilled to catching even the smallest panfish on the docile lake waters of the upper midwest, this story of big, ocean-borne striped bass has "gut hooked" me to keep reading.
The first installment was impossible to stop reading and the easy conversational writing style may reel me in for good. Amazing to me that people can have so many vastly different passions in life. I can't imagine being out in the wet, dark and shark-infested water just to experience Extreme Fishing--but I'd gladly hang on the side of a rock face...hmmm!
I was so relieved when the author went back to shore-- his adventures in the wetsuit made me anxious! I never fished, but his writing pulled me in immediately; he's a good story-teller.
