I don't read much nonfiction but this little bit has drawn me in. I intend to read this book. I am a Christian and voted for Ronald Reagan. God bless him!

This is a book I would never have picked up on my own--anything remotely political turns me off. But I am drawn in! Can't wait til tomorrow's installment. . .

Accepting His Faith on Faith:

May 14 2004, 12:44 PM

As with several chapters of the increasingly mythologized life of Ronald Reagan, we must take on faith much of what is attributed to the great man's religiosity, as even this book reveals between the lines. Conspiracy-minded liberals might simply see this as more evidence of a conservative-led attempt to sanctify the still-living President. Though not the first non-denominationalist to attain the oval office--and one who chose "security concerns" as justification for rarely attending church--few before him knew better how to rally those who actually practiced what he preached. As one journalist put it: If for no other reason, Reagan will always be a religiously fascinating figure because in 1980 he snatched scads of churchgoers' votes from Baptist Carter to unseat one of the most devotedly Christian presidents of the past century.
