Mystery Book Club Shadow Men by Jonathon King Buy book: $15.09
It begins with an 80-year-old mystery. Three men--a father and his two sons--vanished while working as laborers on a dangerous project to build the first road through the Florida Everglades. Now, years later, a series of letters are unexpectedly discovered by a descendant of these men.
I'm also hooked. I've always been intrigued by the Florida Everglades ever since reading Peter Matthiessen's trilogy which begins with Killing Mr. Watson. I can't wait until the next installment.
Knowing this is the third book in a series if I decide to get the book I'll have to start with the first book in the series because I don't do out of order. But reading the installments is still good because I will know how the author writes.
This book sounds great so far! It particularly interests me because I live in Florida. I'll definitely add it to my reading list, which is getting rather long now!
Since I have lived in Florida I'm very familiar with the Everglades. I love a good mystery so I am anxious to read more. I'm reserving my opinion for later
It seems as if we're all in agreement. I really like the book, too. I ordered it from the library as soon as I read the first installment. I picked it up yesterday. Needless to say, I got to bed late last night because I kept saying to myself, "Okay, just one more chapter...."
As a former Miami resident, this author really sends me back. He is good at evoking the feeling of Florida and the Everglades. I would like to find out what happened and will probably read Shadow Men but may read his other books first.
I finally read the rest of this book and liked it a lot, although I might have wished for a different ending. I guess if you are writing a series, you have to leave an opening for the next book. Keep them coming, please.
