NonFiction Book Club Enslaved By Ducks by Bob Tarte Buy book: $15.09
A hilarious and slightly demented tale about a man who goes from head of the household to bottom of the pecking order when he becomes the reluctant keeper of a bizarre menagerie.
As I sat down to write up this post I was interrupted by my two dogs barking to come in from the rain-soaked back yard. As I entered the kitchen downstairs, heading toward the back door, I was greeted by the loud squawks of Hunny and Moki, my two parakeets.
Having just read the first installment of Bob Tarte's "Enslaved By Ducks", I smiled contently amidst my noisey pets because I now know that there is someone else out there whose animals - big and small alike - have taken over their heart. I will definitely be reading more of Bob's duck tale. My husband doesn't understand how I can let my two birds sit on, and poop on, an open cupboard door, but I suspect Bob Tarte understands.
I love it!!! Of course all these beings have their personalities. I'm so glad someone who didn't know it, has seen the light. May he get through to hunters and animal eaters everywhere. What a delightful writing style he has. Or is it that I'm just blinded by my joy that he's promoting my agenda? Can't wait to continue. Why doesn't my library system have this book? I might buy this one and donate it.
Your library should have purchased Enslaved by Ducks. I am a librarian and my library purchased it. How kind of you to buy it and donate but you could also probably fill out a suggestion slip and request it. You might also comment that if it made a top picks list by Barnes and Noble, it should have been picked up by the library. Animal lovers everywhere would enjoy this book!
I've wanted to read this book since I read about it in Barnes & Noble's Picks of the Year list. So far, it is living up to my expectations. Tarte's prose is wry and funny and laced with just the right amount of self-deprecating humor.
I look forward to the next installment of "Ducks".
Can never have the sparkling home I have dreamed of-we have a dog, cat, bird and fish. But somehow, if we didn't have tis menargerie there would be a void.
Not a book I would have chosen for myself to read, but I'm enjoying.
As an animal lover and the owner of an adopted Rottweiler, a stray border collie, and a talking cockatiel, I can relate to this book, which is written with wonderful humor.
I am liking this book so far. It is funny. Also, I can relate to it. I have one dog, two cats and a ferret. When I was growing up my parents had a lot of pets. We even had a pet monkey. I will have to get this book.
Love how the author admits to becoming absolutely deranged, needing to dominate the antisocial rabbit. Laughed, but felt bad to associate so closely with his anger when the rabbit sat on the steps, thumbing his proverbial nose at the futility of the author's tactics; identified as 'unter-rabbit' at finding that the rabbit won each encounter so 'handily'.
