Not sure...

May 17 2004, 6:04 PM

After the first installment of this selection, I'm not sure it's one that I'll finish. Something about the main character that's off-putting. That could change...I'll give it another go tomorrow.

In Agreement with Not Sure

There is something about the main character that I do not like. In addition, don't laugh, I find the first installment "too wordy" as well as jumpy. Maybe I just had a crazy day, but after reading this, I feel that I read allot of words and jumped every where and I'm not really sure where I've landed.

good story

I like this story and want to read the book. I want to find out what happens to this girl now that her teacher/mentor is dead and she is alone. I wasn't sure after the first reading but I got more involved after today's reading.

I agree

it does seem strange...I have no sympathy for the main character yet....why burn your passport was the first question I asked myself.

I agree

As to burning the passport. It seems like a stupid thing to do. Presumably the author will explain eventually, but meanwhile...I have lost respect for the character.

Also, why did she have an affair with a MUCH older man?

Enjoying it so far

May 18 2004, 8:26 AM

Having recently returned from a vacation in Italy,(though not Milan) I find the locale interesting and the comments about Italian personalities..the carabinieri, mortician, etc. I'm enjoying the "staccato" flow of verbiage very much and find it indicative of the character's uncertain feelings about her talent, her past, and even Signor Perso. I'm also enjoying her descriptions of her muted playing. Will keep reading, and maybe reserve a copy from my local library.

not for me

I struggled through the first installment and then tried the second. Couldn't even read the whole thing. Guess I'll skip this one.

This book is simply not for me; not one particular thing; I just didn't care for any of it.

Same for me

This just is not working for me. Just as well...now I can attack the big stack of "to-be-read" books that I've accumulated. See you next week.

EAR

Have to read a little more before I make my final decision. I think this young lady is seaching for something to set her free (emotionally and spiritually). "I could be wrong".

too jumpy

May 24 2004, 9:09 PM

I rented this book from my library and so far i find it very hard to follow. The text is very jumpy and goes from present tense to past tense without any notice.

This book is frustrating me, but yet i am still wondering what is going to happen to her....
