I especially love the British setting. What a wonderful change of pace. The first installment was well written, I look forward to the rest of the week and plan to read the whole book.
This is the first book in an ongoing series by Deborah Crombie. I loved the first book and have gone on to read many more. She is a very good writer and I highly recommend the series.
I also have read this series and really enjoyed them. How I wish I was just discovering them now and could look forward to reading them. I'm running out of this kind of English type series.
While I loved the opening shot of the sudden ray of sun on the moor, I thought the nature description did go on, and on, and on, and....(nearly turned me off).
I would have appreciated coming to the country house a lot sooner -- and still could have picked up the feel of the landscape, the remoteness of the place, etc. Certainly thought we should have overheard that conversation a lot sooner.
Maybe this author's fans have a expectation for this sort of thing? I haven't read her before. Wonder how she starts her other novels?
I enjoyed the opening and the exchange between the characters..but there is something about English mysteries...I can't even put my finger on what it is.
May look for it in the library, but wouldn't run out to buy it.
It took 72 pages to get to the first really interesting item in the book -- the hook! Who has Hanna been waiting to meet?
The tour of the house, the arch comments about each guest (by the side guide), and then a review of every guest in the...what?...was that a DRAWING ROOM!
I have found this to be an intriguing read this week! Seems to keep drawing and drawing deeping - almost like into a spider's web - I think I am there - stuck! I don't think I can quit! I NEED that book! I HAVE TO FIND OUT WHAT THE ENDING IS! What a great author I think she must be! I have never read anything from her before, but if this is any indication of her normal writing, this is really good, and I would like to read more of her works!
I really do enjoy this book club! It just keeps exposing me over and over to more and more good reads! And that is so nice! I am becoming more and more home-bound - in wheelchair - so this gives me more to do, and easier ways to find good things to read!
I enjoy mysteries with English settings and this author was new to me. I have since read 2 later books in the series. The author's writing gets better and better.
