Teen Book Club The Key to the Golden Firebird by Maureen Johnson Buy book: $10.72
Told with humor and poignancy, Johnson's debut novel tells the story of three sisters who must cope with the sudden death of their father. It is a tale that speaks to girls everywhere about loss, love, and the freedom that comes with a single car key.
I have 3 sisters too and this book makes me kind of think like that story as my own life. We had hard times in our lives too in which we were more together. This book is so cool. I would surely get it. I can't wait for the next chapter.
Just after the first passage, I'm totally into this book! It is so funny! I loved the little stunt Pete pulled on May. I wouldn't have been too mad at Pete if I were May... I would take a few minutes to let it soak in and then I would probally laugh so hard I would pee my pants! I think this will be a great book!
How cool is that... I got an email advertising this book about 2 months ago and I went to the website and checked out the details of the book, so I actually read the first chapter but no matter I'll read it again. Plus nonow I know it's in the library.
My first impression of this book wasn't a very good one and I delayed reading that first excerpt for a couple hours before taking the time to read it through. At first it really bored me, but then it got interesting (especially with that hilarious trick Pete pulled on May), and I can't wait to read more.
I don't think my life can get better! The perfect softball-addict story! I just hope this isn't like some books that end up being terribly boring after the first chapter or so...but for now i'm in Heaven!
oh, okay, now I get it. A few things in that first selection were confusing to the point of cruelty, but now I'm understanding the slushie and the window, etc.
I'm really liking this author's style--descriptive but not in a "her eyes were this color. her hair was this color. she played softball."-kind of way, and there are bits of dry humor that personally, I really like.
I wonder if Palmer's trick will work...?...
I think this book is okay so far, probably more of a book for girls. I wonder how May came up with the plan to get Pete. I would have been a little suspicious if someone was waving their bra at me. I might get this out if I see it, but as I said I am not enjoying it so much. Next weeks book is one that I am looking forward to. I really like Andrew Clements as an author. I think I have read everything except next weeks book that is by him.
See you then-
