Teen Book Club Midnight Blue by Pauline Fisk Buy book: $11.37
Bonnie, a girl torn between the harsh reality of her mother's weaknesses and her grandmother's strong will escapes her home one day by sneaking into her neighbor's hot air balloon. But instead of flying into the clouds and back down, she lands in another world, something like her own, but both kinder and somehow much more terrifying. She's not sure if she can ever leave this nearly parallel world and return to her own. And if she did, she isn't sure she'll be able to bring back with her the sense of warmth and love she has grown to cherish. Amazingly, she does both.
This book looks like it will be interesting. It looks like a fantasy from the book jacket, but it sounds more realistic than some other fantasies I have read. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

im liking this book so far. just maybelle seems very bossy. i dont know, but why does bonnie call maybelle by her name if shes her mom. Did they just meet or sumthin? my first thought was that she had been living with Grandbag before and just found out that maybelle is her mom. i guess i'll just have to wait and find out whats up with the family thing. anyway, grandbag doesn't seem to like maybelle much, and who is doreen? and why were they miserable when they said that doreen was with grandbag? why do they call her grandbag, anyway?
i think im kinda like bonnie, in the daydreaming way. i daydream in the car and in school and almost everywhere else. anyway i'd like to hear more and more. cant wait for the next excerpt. ~^~^~Coleen~^~^~
so far it seems really good!! quite a few kids call their parents by their 1st names, i know a couple.... the book cover makes it sound really good, so i hope it can live up to it (lol)!!
i can't wait to read what comes next!! i wish i had a place to hide form my grandma!! (laugh out loud) i think maybelle seems nicer then grandbag.... i guess that's just my opinion.

This book is full of questions. But i like books like them. I already holded it.It's getting intresting every day. I like the cover too. The name makes it a lot dreamy. I daydream just like Bonnie in the book. But the only difference is that sometimes the dreams actually comes true. So I am kind of scared of my dreams. Can't wait for tommorows read.
yeah i agree that the 1st excerpt was kinda' confusing, but i think it's really good too. i wonder why grandbag will tell meybelle "i told you so". i can't wait to read what comes next!

I think the color MIDNIGHT BLUE is the same color as the cloth because Bonnie said that first she thought it was black, but when the garderner brought the cloth in the light it was a deep blue.
I think the story is going to be interesting, but it is moving a bit slow for me. Where had Bonnie been before moving here? Why did she have to move? Why is the grandmother called Grand-'bag'? I find I am more interested now in the man with the ancient languages and all, there's a much bigger mystery with him.
I really wasn't getting into this story. After a few sentences of the 2nd excerpt, I just got so tired of it I just deleted the thing and I did the same today too. I have read better and more interesting books that caught my attention faster (anyone here read "Life of Pi"?) but unfortunately this doesn't seem like one of them.
This book is okay so far, though it is not to great. It is a little confusing, there is something about the writing style that I can't put my finger on that is strange to me. This might get better once she goes "beyond the sky" which I think is a little out there. It doesn't make that much sense at this point, hopefully it will get beter.

I agree with you Sherryl, it's just not a grabber. I have not read "Life of Pi", but heard it was great. I think the reason I don't like this one much is because she uses so much description without telling you what's going on, so it's just confusion with adjectives. Has anyone read "Artemis Fowl"? I love the story; it's fantasy but not at all confusing.
I Just got on the 2nd chapter and I am already interested in the book. This is a great book. It actually makes me want to read more than five times a day!!!
